What it can feel like

Shoulder pain can make it hard to reach overhead, put on a coat or sleep on one side. It may feel like a deep ache or a sharp pinch at certain angles.

Common causes

  • Overuse from lifting, swimming or repetitive work

  • Stiffness in the upper back that limits shoulder movement

  • Weakness in the muscles that steady the shoulder blade

How we help

We check the neck, upper back and shoulder together, because they work as a team. Treatment usually combines hands-on care with a progressive exercise plan led by our physiotherapist.

When to seek urgent care

Most back and neck pain is not dangerous. Please seek urgent medical care, and do not wait for an appointment, if your pain follows a serious fall or accident, or comes with fever, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin, sudden weakness in a leg or arm, chest pain or difficulty breathing.
